Athletic Training and Sports Medicine
Crystal Lake South partners with Northwestern Medicine- McHenry County Orthopedics to provide an athletic trainer who will evaluate, treat, and rehabilitate athletic injuries, and provide immediate care and injury prevention to student athletes. The athletic trainer will be present at home events and travel to varsity football away games.
If a student athlete is seen by a doctor for any injury, the school requires a note from the doctor stating that the athlete is cleared to return to sport participation. There are no exceptions. The athlete will not be allowed to participate in their sport until the school or athletic trainer has the note in possession.
According to Illinois Public Act 99-245, if a student athlete is suspected of having concussion, the student athlete must be removed from play and must complete the 5-Day Return To Play Protocol. This protocol MUST be supervised by the school’s designated athletic trainer. The athlete will not be allowed to return to practice or competition until he or she has completed all aspects of the return to play protocol. More information on Public Act 99-245 can be found here.
